WPS Office on Windows is the version most offices actually test against.

Kingsoft still documents Windows 7/8/10; in 2026 treat Windows 10 and 11 as the real targets. The suite is marketed as lighter than Microsoft 365, with a tabbed workspace for Writer, Sheets, Slides, and PDF.

System requirements

Kingsoft’s help article lists Windows 7 / 8 / 10, a dual-core processor or better, 2 GB RAM minimum, and 4 GB of free disk. Windows 11 is the current download-page target. For large spreadsheets, use a 64-bit OS.

Clean install steps

  1. Uninstall old Kingsoft Office leftovers from Settings → Apps if you are jumping from a 2016-era build.
  2. Download only while the address bar shows wps.com or microsoft.com.
  3. Run the installer as a standard user first.
  4. Skip extra offers if the installer still shows any.
  5. Open a known-good DOCX, XLSX, and PDF before you declare victory.

Stuck on splash screen

Update the graphics driver, and add WPS to Controlled Folder Access exceptions if Microsoft Defender ransomware protection is on. Corrupted user config under %appdata%\Kingsoft can freeze startup — rename the folder after backing it up.

Files still open in Microsoft Word

Windows file associations are sticky. Keep Word as the default and use WPS as the spare tire if that matches your workplace. Or set WPS Writer for .docx only.

High DPI blur on 4K laptops

Shortcut → Properties → Compatibility → Change high DPI settings. Tabbed UI plus 150% scaling is a common blur combo.

Updater blocked

Corporate proxies and DNS filters can make templates never finish downloading. Test on a phone hotspot once before reinstalling.

Windows 7 leftovers

Vendor help still mentions older Windows in places; the current download page targets Windows 10/11. If a lab PC is stuck on 7, you are on borrowed time for security patches, not just for WPS. Prefer a machine that still gets OS updates.
