Guide

Conversion is a reconstruction. OCR is a guess. Neither is a Xerox of the page.

WPS can export PDF to Word and the reverse. Quality depends on whether the PDF contains real text or only pictures of text. Premium often meters batch convert.

Working with a PDF and extracted text in WPS

Identify the PDF

Click a paragraph. If you can highlight letters, you have a text PDF. If you can only draw a box around a photo of a page, you have a scan. Scans need OCR first.

Text PDF path

  1. Open the file in WPS PDF.
  2. Use Convert → Word (button names vary by build).
  3. Open the DOCX and check headers, tables, and footnotes.
  4. Work on a copy. Never overwrite the only signed original.

Scan path

Run OCR in a language that matches the page. Arabic, Cyrillic, and CJK need the right OCR pack. Expect to fix names and numbers. For a three-page form, retyping can be faster than cleaning OCR.

When conversion is the wrong tool

If you only need a signature, comment, or a flattened copy, stay in PDF. Converting a magazine layout into Word so you can “just change a date” will cost an afternoon.

Online converters

WPS offers web PDF-to-Word. Convenient for a public flyer. Unacceptable for passports, payroll, and unpublished research. Prefer the desktop app on a local file.

The other direction

If you started in Writer and need a freeze copy, do not round-trip PDF → Word → PDF. Export once. Word to PDF.
